4 huge mistakes when potty training....

I decided to potty train my eldest son before I became a parenting coach.

I thought: This shouldn’t be a big deal, everybody does it… I was so wrong!!!

My 4 biggest mistakes were the following:

1. I didn’t check if my child was mature enough (physically and emotionally) to even start potty training – He reached the age of two and I just thought it’s a good time to do it.

2. I gave my child no choice and just announced it to him: this is what’s going to happen…

3. I chose the worse timing - near the birth of his younger brother.

4. I got really emotional about “accidents” – angry, disappointed and very frustrated.

Many years later I understood:

  • How important it is to look for SIGNS OF READINESS of a child, before you even start the process.

  • How crucial it is to let a child CHOOSE, it empowers him and teaches him responsibility.

  • How much TIMING is important! Choose a time when your child is emotionally available to learn.

  • That the key to success is to send a message out to my child, that I TRUST him, and that he is able to do it.
