3 little monkeys

Updated: Jan 3

In my office in Herzelya, I have this little statue, of the 3 monkeys…

Why? Because lots of times I find myself telling parents to be a little more like the 3 monkeys…

“I didn’t see,
I didn’t hear
I didn’t speak (or intervene)”

Parents today are sometimes too involved in their children’s lives, activities and behaviors.

See, hear and speak/intervene less when:
  • Your kids fight – allow them to settle their disputes on their own

  • Your kids fail, or do not succeed – stop fixing, or making it better

  • Your kids ask you to speak to their teacher, or friend – encourage them to do so by themselves

  • Your kids are doing stuff in their own way – stop correcting them, or seeing what’s wrong

  • Your kids are complaining about stuff – let it be, and let them figure it out

We definitely want our children to have a sense that they are seen and loved by us, and that we are going to be by their side when they truly need us.

Yet, let’s take an honest look at our parenting, and check how much is TOO MUCH and when we need TO LET GO…. and just not see, not hear and stop speaking.
