Six simple steps to raise a child with high self-esteem

Updated: Jan 3

When I ask parents what they really want for their children, most of them answer: I just want her/him to have HIGH SELF-ESTEEM!

I compiled 6 (simple) actions you can take as a parent, in order to help your children develop a higher sense of self-worth and resilience:
  1. LISTEN to your children (when they come and tell you about something that happened to them) – without trying to solve their problems, or tell them, what they should, or shouldn’t have done.

  2. SHARE with your children (on a daily basis) – invite your children into your inner world, and tell them about your dreams, hopes and wishes, but also about your doubts and fears.

  3. Ask your children for ADVICE – and cherish their way of thinking and ideas.

  4. Allow them to CHOOSE as much as you can – give them a sense of power, responsibility and control over their lives.

  5. Give your children ROLES and TASKS – it will make them feel trusted, worthy and reliable.

  6. Spend some undivided and exclusive TIME with your children (even just 10-15 minutes a day) – show them they are important to you, and you want to spend time with them.
