Sleep when the baby sleeps. Fold laundry when the baby folds laundry.
I wanted to write 10 tips for the “new mom”, but I just realized the last thing I would like to do is to “patronize” this new mama, with all kind of thoughts and beliefs I have about motherhood.
This is me in the picture, back in 2007, when I became a mother for the first time…. I was told to “sleep when the baby sleeps…” but when he was sleeping, all I could think of was the laundry that needed to be folded :)
Being a mom of 3 for the last 14 years, and meeting so many diverse parents through my work, makes me realize, time and again, there is no “one-size-fits-all” in parenting. Remembering that helps me to stay humble, open, curious and empathic to new mothers.
So my one and only “tip” for all those first-time, courageous and very tired mamas is to firstly TRUST YOURSELVES - you know what’s best for you and for your baby - and do not allow anyone to dismiss that!
Moreover, please remember that parenthood is a wonderful learning PROCESS with ups and down, moments of glory and many falloffs… and if you are willing to be open enough, you might discover hidden gems and strengths about yourself throughout this journey.
